What is AquaStretch?

AquaStretch™ is a specific type of assisted/guided stretching that is only made possible when in the water. It was created by George Eversaul and was initially designed as a fitness and wellness programme. However, early research has shown that it can also help those in a variety of other situations.

AquaStretch is a whole body facilitated stretch.  This means that you allow your body to follow its intuitive movements.

Unlike many treatments, you are not having the treatment done to you by the facilitator but you are participating in your own experience and treatment.  You need to allow your body to move in whichever way you feel would assist your stretch.

AquaStretch works on the whole body however unlike many treatments, it targets your connective tissue which is like the glue that connects everything to everything else within the body.  Connective tissue can get tight and knotted like muscles and needs to be released.

Aquastretch is perfect for you if

You Suffer from chronic pain

Such as:

  • Lower back, neck, joint or muscle pain (including arthritis, headaches, fibromyalgia)

  • Idiopathic pain or nerve dysfunction (i.e. ovarian pain, plantar fasciitis)

  • Pain from injuries, including accidents, combat, and sports injuries

  • You have low levels of flexibility for various reasons, including surgery

  • You need soft tissue prep, for synergy with massage, chiropractic and cranial work.

  • Post-surgical rehabilitation:  ACL, meniscus, hip and knee replacement, post-natal.

  • Scoliosis and other spinal deformities, including degenerative or herniated disks.

  • You take part in large amounts of exercise and want to lower the likelihood of injury and improve your performance

  • You would like help relaxing, or have sleeping issues

  • Psychological: May reduce anxiety & PMS emotions and increase mental clarity.

People who benefit from an AquaStretch™ usually experience significant pain relief and/or restored flexibility in their first session.  AquaStretch™ seems to have an immediate and relatively permanent change in the soft tissue, most people only need intermittent sessions to maintain their health improvements.

What AquaStretch™ is not

AquaStretch™ facilitators are qualified only in the AquaStretch™ technique. They are not general medical professionals or doctors. As a result, they do not claim to be able to diagnose an issue, cannot prescribe medication and do not claim to be the sole method of treatment for any issue. It can be used in combination with other treatments, such as pharmacological prescriptions (drug medication). You do not need to know how to swim to participate.

What does an Aquastretch Session feel like?

The pressure used can range from very gentle touch to deeper pressure. The pressure from AquaStretch should never be beyond your tolerance and it is important to give feedback to your facilitator during the treatment. The techniques help to reorganise and lengthen the tight tissue allowing for better movement and health.

Some people may experience a slight tingling or burning sensation in the skin, which is perfectly normal and safe. Others may feel a gentle to deep stretch on the area being treated.

The facilitator may treat other areas of the body to positively affect your session outcome. For example, your facilitator may work on the hips and lower back to help reduce tension in the neck which in turn can cause headaches. This is the benefit of a whole-body approach that makes AquaStetch such an effective Session.

The Session can last from 15 minutes to over an hour. It is performed by a qualified facilitator.

Because each client is different, the number of AquaStetch sessions required may vary.  However, a general rule is that you should notice a change in your condition with AquaStetch.
